I'm looking for a small utility truck for something around my house. I was strongly considering the Chevy S10 ,GMC Sonoma and Isuzu Hombre but it seems like the general consensus is the 2.2L 4cyl motor is a piece of shit.

How is the Ranger's equivalent 4 banger motor?

The only reason I'm considering the 4 is because of gas and insurance.

Please remember how I'm going to use this truck. At the very most I'll be pulling jet skies. I'm not looking for a show or performance truck. I'll also be using this as my commuter for work.

    Opinions? :wiggle:

What about the new Chevy Colorado? Its 4 cylinder gets 165 hp, as much as my 6cyl S-10

I think the ranger (4cyl) is a 2.3 Duratec DOHC 143hp 160ish torque. I had one awhile back 03 I believe. It was a very soild mini truck if i do say so, never had 1 issue with it. Got awesome gas mileage (manual) Hell I even had a 75 shot of spray on it, made for some good video...

I would throw dirtbikes in the back, pull a dune-buggy from time to time, pretty much just beat the shit out of it and never had issues.

the 2.2L S10 motor is a good motor -- just under-powered. The best 4cyl mini-truck is the Toyota Tacoma 2.4/2.7L. Next is the 4cyl S10 and Nissan Frontier.

i bought a 1993 ford ranger wayyyyyyyy back when

was a decent truck for a 4 banger, but when it came time to change plugs, the last one was a real bitch

7 easy ones and one that took a good bit of moving shit outta the way to get to (2 plugs per cylinder!)

wish i never got rid of it :wtc:
ass-load of 1st and 2nd place trophies when i was in car audio competition

"you'll never get it done right in a truck!"

oh, what's the trophy say? 1st place? mmhmm :fawk:

I currently got a 4 banger 96 ranger. 180k miles and at 172k I changed out the OEM clutch on it. BAsic maintence and it goes forever. Never had any probs with it.

I pulled a 16 ft. pontoon boat with it very short distences but it still pulled it in 4th gear (mines manuel) and gets easily 25 mpg on the highway. I take the damn thing everywhere and its yet to let me down.
