Heres the deal, Im installing a DVD burner for my cousin and we ran into a few problems. The Secondary slave that was in it already was a CdRW set to cable select mode. So we took it out, put in the DVDRW set to CS, attached the power and IDE and booted it up. It gets to the Windows XP launch screen but it just cant finish booting up. The monitor just goes idle. We can get into safe mode and stuff no problems. Anyone have any ways to fix it? We're kind of pissed off

    P.S. Its a Dell Dimension 8300

Look in the device manager in save mode and see if it's showing anything funny. Maybe it's trying to use the drivers from the CD-RW for the new drive or something :dunno:

Captain Obvious to the rescue : Remove the drive and see if that's the cause.
