I'm 23 and I need a suit for job interviews for engineering jobs. I am 6'2" and 140lbs. Not sure if that matters.

I know nothing about suits. I want something classic, not trendy. I do know I want flat front pants.

    Should I get a 2 or 3 button?
    Solid, stripe, ministripe?
    Black, charcoal, or blue?
How much should I be looking to spend?
Is MensWarehouse or S&K okay, or should I try Macys?

Lately I've been seeing alot of sweet 2-buttons suits that are double-vented. Classic, but way more stylish than a single vent right up the crack.

Personally, I buy this kind of stuff based on fit, rather than color/pattern (although I do prefer solids). But then again, I don't wear suits for work.

I would say $400+ will get you into something nice. Don't go too cheap.

You can do either 2 or 3 buttons (just remember never to button the bottom button).

Try and stick with navy or charcoal for interviews...if you're going to do strips, just make sure they're faint. And you can pretty much pick one up anywhere...just go to a place that takes your measurements beforehand.

I picked up a suit in black, dark blue, and a charcoal with a faint pin stripe the other month. Tailor made suits, picked the threads too. Super 170s cashmere/wool blend. Nice stuff.

I would have to concur about the blue suit. 2 buttons are nice, 3 buttons are fine as well. A 1 button is a little too much for someone going for an interview in my opinion, more of a style statement. 1-2 vents are up to you.

Make sure the sleeves aren't too long and that the shoulders are not too wide. Look up some FAQs online using a search engine.

I agree with the $400 range. But don't feel bad about finding something for less!!! ;)

Make sure that there is a bit of white shirt showing near your wrists. And tie your tie so the tip of it touches your belt. Otherwise you will get laughed at..albeit silently.

And it doesn't matter if you shop at the mainstream suit stores, unless you're applying at one of the $300 hour outfits where they don't allow top execs to have a bowel movement more than once a week.

since it's your first suit go...

    3 button
    solid, no stripes
    navy blue
    whatever you're comfortable with
less brand, more fit. you're going to be buying off-the rack no matter what.
brands will have different cuts. hugo boss tends to make younger, slimmer cuts.
talk to a salesman, tell him your situation and that you're looking for a slimmer suit.

your first suit should be a solid either navy blue or black. i prefer navy blue because its abit more versatile.
2nd suit can be lighter like a charcoal or a gray.
    3rd suit pinstripe/different color etc.

look at the pictures of the guys posted, notice where the sleeves come to. it should be just above your thumb knuckle.

Thanks for all the input! I'll look into Hugo Boss for the slightly slimmer cut.

Do I have to wear a white shirt on interviews? I'll be buying a lot of different ones, but that's a whole nother thread.

    heres a tip:

go to like macy's or jcpenny or one of those huge department store, find the suit guy(s), have them tell you what your suit size is.

then go browse for cheap but stylish ones if you want, or if you got mucha moola to spend, then go to a fancy store.
You can find lots of marked down suits that are kicked ass as well.

that being said, because i had moola at the time, I bought my last suit at $600 :o
    I love it though.

the first thing to note in terms of fit is in the shoulders. Make sure they hug your shoulders.

I heard wearing white depends on how conservative the company is (which most are)...so yea wear a solid white just to be safe.

I'm sorry this picture freaks me out. Does anyone notice how big his hands are compared to his head.... Its like his head is way to small.

    Maybe i'm just tired.

 His hands are aged faster than his face.

His hands look like he is 49-- his face makes him look 32-35

    I want a suit v. First Suit.

So I decided I want to buy a suit for an upcoming business forum at school in a few weeks. I don't have to wear a suit, but why the fuck not?

I've never bought a suit before, went into Men's Wearhouse the other day and met the manager and he was an excellent salesman, he gave me his card so I will probably go back.

I'd like a black suit, I think they look slick; but I heard they should really only be worn for funerals :dunno:

    I'll probably buy a 2 button cause I'm only 5'8".

What else should I look for? I really don't want to spend more than like $400 on my first suit.

Should I wait on the suit and just buy a pair of nice black pants, shirt, tie and shoes? That can always look just as nice.

black is nice, but traditionally not as vesatile. for a first suit youll get a lot more use from grey or navy.
