I have two maxtor 120 gig hdds in raid 0, using a promise fasttrack tx4000 RAID card. The first drive in the array is stone dead. I stuck it in the freezer for a few days and it still gives me the same problem. Can anyone help me out with this nightmare?

Well, either get that drive up and running again or reformat the other drive and work off that one. As for your data, its toast unless you can get it off the first drive...

    I like this comment:

"Using a RAID 0 array without backing up any changes made to its data at least daily is a loud statement that that data is not important to you."

    - found here: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/raid/levels/singleLevel0-c.html

You might check out data recovery options. A few years ago it was something like a buck a meg or something like that. I'd predict its still pretty pricey.

If you look back in June, I had the same thing happen to me. RMA'd the drive and started over from scratch. Luckily for me, I didn't really care about what I lost.

    yeah ur fucked.

idealy if ur data was that important u would of ran RAID 5 :) and lose 1/x ur space due to ur parity drive, but u wouldnt be where u are now. or RAID 1 if u dont care about drive space (though im assuming u do thats why u ran RAID 0)

just rma the drive and move on. shit happens, just cant let it hold u down.

He probably wanted speed. That's why I run a 0 config on my dev "gets rebuilt every 3 weeks anyhow" server ;)
