Hello guys, the BF and I are trying to open ports 6881 to 6899 for bit torrent to work, but we don't know what to do when we're in the router setup :( The router is a 8000a. Thanks in advance :)

I tried a tutorial on that website, but after following the instructions correctly, my internet isn't working anymore. It stopped working after I configured my static IP adress.

You probably used the wrong static IP, I would reccomend not doing it at all, if you can't open the ports, you don't deserve to use Torrents.

Go to START - Programs - accessories - command prompt.

type in: ipconfig and hit enter.
You will recieve a list of items with numbers (IP ADDRESSES) behind them.
Look for the line that just says 'IP ADDRESS' and write that number down on a piece of paper.

Go ahead and close that out.

Follow the instructions for your router to get into its config screen. It will probably be typing an IP address in your browser window.
go to the tab that tells you about port forwarding and allows you to do it.

    Okay.

Find a line and set it to read from 6881 to 6889. There should be some space for some text. Write in there BTORENT or something. What you write is not important. This is just so you can remember why you opened up the port in the future. Somewhere else it asks where you want to forward to. You will probably see IP address that have the last 4 numbers to be filled in by you. Well, fill in the last 4 digits from the last for digits that you got from the command prompt.

Be certain to check the box that enables it.

Be sure to properly hit ACCEPT and CLOSE.

    Now power off your PC.

Once you have done that physicly unplug the router. Wait 90 seconds and plug the router back in.
    Turn on your PC.

You should be back in business. If you have any issues after this the first step should ALWAYS be to do an IPCONFIG from the command prompt and see if your IP address has changed from what you have in the port forwarding of the router. Your IP address CAN and probably DOES occasionaly change. Hence you will have occasionaly problems that can be fixed with these instructions.

Go to the command prompt (I already gave instructions for doing this) and type in: IPCONFIG/RENEW and hit enter.

The internet should work, if it doesn't reboot your PC before panicking.
