this was the first shot of the night - she was still doing her makeup, and happened to be doing it in front of the strobes on the floor... hence the clumped eye lashes - i didn't even really have a chance to meter the strobes, but i guessed pretty close and did very minor post processing to it

this is the first in what was probably the best studio shoot ive had to date... more will come shortly

it's very nice, but there are a couple things that bother me, the crop is a little odd, either make it a little tighter in to her nose or show the right eye; she has very nice skin, but IMO iI think it needs to be softened just a little bit bc you can see her pores a little bit too much; the light is a bit flat, so make your light rations a little higher or put a rim light just behind her head; and take away the right catch light in her eye.
    GOOD JOB!!!

this is out of camera croping, how i shot it - so i can always bring it in closer

her skin has already been smoothed w/ fred miranda's iso x pro plugin - im afraid if i push it any further you will start to loose details - as it is i had to drag the original file under this one in photoshop and erase the eyes from the top, softened layer to show that detail

im not a super big fan of dual catchlights, but catchlights are pretty desireable from everyone in the industry that i've had contact with...

but thanks for the positive comments... keep em coming

you can see her wrinkles under her eyes, and little spots by her mouth, and you can see the foundation covering her skin..... just copy the layer, do some gausian blur.... add a layer mask, and with the brush tool on black click on the layer mask and "erase" the areas you want sharp like the eyes, mouth and hair. Yes, they defenatelly need catchlights, but take the one on the right out, and to fix the ratios you have 2 options, reeshoot it, or do levels on the midtones, not the highlights.

Looks awesome but angle_fiire pretty much covered what I was gunna say.

It kind of looks like here eyebrow and skin around it is a blurred. Not sure if that's how the picture was or you did that afterwards. Anyway, the picture looks good though.

much better, her skin looks young now, the eye brows are too soft though, and she still has the little dots by her mouth and IMO you should take the wrinkleunder her eye out completelly, much better with just one catch light.... good job!!!

btw your opinion on catchlights don't matter. what's important is what your customer likes.

catch lights are very important for portraits, it's not about what the client demands, because half of the time consumer clients don't notice them, what they will notice is that the "look" of the subject is dead, the catch light gives certain feeling of the subject being alive, when you look at a person's face the frist thing that you notice, and the most important thing is the eyes, it's what pulls you into looking at a head shot, although it might be a very interesting portrait/headshot, having catchlights will make it a much more aprochable and interesting. It gives a "sparckle" in the eye. it also shows light placement, which means it makes you more of a professional because of proper use of lights.

The double catchlight looks odd, but the shape is interesting -- Looks like umbrellas or brolyboxes ?
