    how are your speakers connected?

why not just turn them off?

speakers are plugged into the rear. the rear is a 6 jack, and theres 2 jacks out front for headphones and mic.

it seems to me that when i plug something into the headphones jack it should shut off the speakers, just like on anything else with a headphone jack.

could this be a jumper problem? i was a bit confused of what was goin where but the front jacks work. sort of...

What MB & Onboard sound? I know for a fact the realtek chip/drivers on the 680i boards don't turn off the rear panel when the front panel is used ... there are probably other examples as well.

the speakers go thru a sherwood receiver.

the headset is just a $25 altec lansing. as i said, i can get sound when i test the front jack, and the mic works, but the problem is that when i plug into the front jack, it should give me all the sound there and disable the rear
