I know most carry guys will say carry with one in the chamber hammer back safety on, but what do you all do for the shotty?

I store mine with the tube full of 00 buck (no slugs would require adjusting the poly choke.), with the chamber empty and the safety on. I do store it with the hammer back, but that is simply so that the slide lock engages and the slide doesn't fall open as it is propped again a wall.

I store mine "Cruiser Ready". Full tube, fired on an empty chamber, safety on. That way I won't have to fumble with the slide lock in the middle of the night.

Same here, except I keep the tube downloaded by 1. So if I wanted to transition to a slug first off I'd just put one in and rack the gun.

Condition 1, same as everything else. I'm not relying on a sound to scare someone off, and definitely not going to give up my position to chamber. There's no quiet way to rack a shotgun.

Condition 3. But the "hammer down" bit is clever.

Not a bad train of thought, I don't care for that as most all Shotguns aren't drop safe. Then can go off if knocked over.

so for those of you who keep one in the chamber, is the shotty the first gun you have, IE closest to the bed or is there another one?

You could also just pull the trigger and rack the slide instead of pushing the slide lock. :dunno:

Tube full, chamber empty, safety off, hammer down so I can rack one in a hurry. Slide stays in place just fine.

I live in a 1-bedroom apartment, so it's not going to be a terrible surprise where I'm at should goblins come knocking at night. Safety location is also terrible on the Model 88 for quick disengagement.

I was reading that if you keep the mag full it tends to distort the rounds and they wont always chamber! I keep mine empty...

Saiga's would be one of the very few exceptions. Most shotguns are based on sporting models that aren't typically. Saiga's being based off an AK might indeed be drop safe, but I don't know off hand.

it's as drop safe as any ak, which is to say pretty drop safe, but not 100% like some handguns.
