Howdy folks. I just got back from a 2 week detachment onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. It was just a work up for deployment, so everyone can get all the necessary quals and training in preparation for the long haul. Seeing as it was my first time on a ship, it was a hell of an experience. I snagged some pics to share with everyone. It's SO nice to be home :bigthumb: On to the pics:

My squadron's aircraft. Meet the F/A-18E Super Hornet.

    And snagging the wire

A Seahawk touching down on the flight deck
    [IMG]

2 Hornets doing a flyby after the last aircraft left the deck on our way home
    [IMG]

EA-6B Prowler parked aft of the island

Legacy Hornet on its way home

Another shot of a Legacy Hornet (F/A-18C) on approach

An E-2C Hawkeye sitting on Cat 2

Launching for the last time and heading back to Lemoore, our CAG bird waiting on Cat 2

I took this standing on the bow, looking aft. You can see the USS Ronald Reagan in the background.

I must admit Aircraft Carriers are the extreme shit and when coupled with all of the components that make a carrier group  ^1000

:coold: The Truman is a bit newer than the Lincoln, but they're pretty much the same ship. I took this one as we were pulling out in San Diego.

Some of the newer cruise ships are bigger than carriers. None are nuclear powered though :mamoru:

are you talking about the vertical or horizontal stab? here's a super sitting next to a legacy for reference.

An F/A-18 at full power is awe inspiring when you're standing 15 feet away from it.

We wear good ear protection, but with that many jets turning in such a small space, it gets pretty damn loud. Lots of wind too.

thanks :bigthumb: I've heard from quite a few people that Japan is a great duty station. I've never been on the Chicken Hawk but I do know that it's pretty old. What does your wife do?
