    This.

AFBoard has some good info on using insulin for muscle building. Again, I wouldn't do anything without seeing the doc.

as long as you are keeping your glucose under control, it shouldn't effect you that much. you are synthetically regulating your body which can't be as good as the bodies natural physiological means of regulation as they are minute to minute. keep glucose in check and you should be getting the right amount of glucose in your cells. the glut4 receptors are the only insulin dependent ones anyway and those are only on muscle and adipose tissue.

just google around for it, there's some discussion out there. There's plenty of body builders who are insulin-dependent diabetics.

Insulin itself can be anabolic due to the increased nutrient uptake, so timing can be key

Yep yep. Couple of the most built guys I know are t1. I don't know a ton about the timing/bolus amounts, but there's definitely information out there.

if you just got diagnosed than getting your sugars under control will help with the fat storage and building of muscle.

the analogy that I read about the use of insulin to help build muscle faster is that the insulin acts like a bus, that drives the nutrients in what you eat to where it needs to go faster. Its about the timing of it. Most of what I read describes taking insulin post workout, then eating 15-20mins when the Humalog starts to work.

If this doesn't fit with your schedule I wouldn't mess with it.

Since this isn't for some noob that's going to mess with insulin, but someone who's dependent on it, here goes.

DO NOT MESS WITH INSULIN. CONSULT A DOCTOR BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

    I tend to disagree.

I think ingesting large ammounts of carbohydrates WITHOUT the use of insulin is more dangerous.

    thanks for all the info.

I really had no clue that insulin could play such a direct role in promoting muscle growth... but the whole 'bus' thing makes a lot of sense w/ fats too.. guess that why i have been packing on the pounds. time to lower fat intake dramatically.

and for those who think trying what ralyks posted might be worth it I urge you to reconsider.. despite what the article suggests hypoglycemia can result in extremely serious problems.

    thanks again.

use the insulin your body creates... your pancreas isn't fucked.

You don't need to avoid fats ALTOGETHER, just with carbs and around the time you take your shots. If you can get a good meal of protein and fats, without carbs/insulin for 3 hours before and after, go for it. Your body needs fats, and minimizing carbs/insulin around that time will help you to metabolize instead of store them.

hypoglycemia is a fucking AWFUL feeling and you have no choice but to panic...your body is freaking out bc something is wrong

how many carbs are you putting down that would actually put you at risk? If your pancreas is 100% healthy, then there really shouldn't be any concerns
