    1) I never, ever shoot alone like that unless I am really comfortable with the location.
    2) I live in Eugene, Oregon where crime is ridiculously low. Anything can happen, but it probably won't.
    3) "I am really more distraught over the loss of my memory card which contained images that I had not downloaded for 3 or so months. The moral... download your images after every shoot!!" Who the fuck does that?

Sucks, but it happens all the time.

No, you wouldn't have. Having been robbed at gunpoint before, I can honestly tell you that you don't think about that kind of shit when it's happening.

I am always concerned. You just have to be smart, minimize public exposure of your stuff. Be aware of your surroundings. Play the odds.

Given they were taking thousands in equipment maybe the robbers wouldnt have cared about a measly 20$ card :hs:

Im in gun crew, so I would have made it look as though im going to take my gear off but instead give them a faceful of cold barrel :o

actually I'd probably not and pretend I did after the fact..... not even thinking about my gun until they were out of sight :o

Sure, because it's obvious they were civilized gentlemen that could empathize with your desire to save your photos.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::hsugh:

Being held up at gunpoint is scary. Ive had it done to me, as well as shot at from distance. Shit sucks.

Gear is not worth dying for or even getting shot at for. I carry a firearm 90% of teh time. the other 10% are in casinos and bars where im not allowed to. And if i were held up at point blank range, i would still give them all the gear i had. There is no way im going to be able to draw my weapon faster than they can just pul the trigger. That being said, i am always aware of my surroundings and always bring an assistant or fellow photog with me at all times. And if im in a sketchy area i will always be mindful, so that i am not at point blank range. Therefor i can react before the confrontation.

Gear is gear, it can be replaced, images can be reshot, your life is worth way more than that, dont be stupid.

Not sure that would be the first thing going through my head. I would be concerned w/ getting a description of them along w/ making sure that I'm not about to get shot.

I don't really shoot in gun-sketchy locations, but I often worry about somebody trying to heist my bag off a bar stool or while I'm taking a leak or somewhere when I turn my head for a sec.

I'm worried about it while I'm travelling, since I don't really know the countries that well

But I've taken my DSLR to South America (including rio!) and japan, and everything has been fine

but then again, im not white so i dont stand out like a tourist :o

heinzanova and i drove in to poland while on vacation. we went to some shit down that was near the border of germany. not only did i feel we were going to robbed, but i also felt we'd get raped/murdered as well

but for other places i just have renter's insurance. $500 deductible with $100,000 insurance. $500 sucks, but hey whatever

renters doesn't cover items that leave the home.

you need a personal articles policy. 0 deductible, $10 per 1000 insured.

then i got lied to. i called state farm insurance before going to europe. i wanted to add protection.

i said i was going on a trip. i want insurance for my camera equipment/clothing/etc.

she said i was covered. all personal property whether at home or with me.
