Thank God for that philosophy. don't think I'd have made it somedays if I didn't know that it is one day at a time.

I quit drugs before the drink, (speed was hardest). Drinking always made me want to go get some drugs, though.

Yeah drinking always made me want to get some drugs too. That's pretty much why I had to quit.

true...thats why I get pissed when some of the old timers at my meetings have something to say to a newcomer who speaks about being dual addicted.
Drinking, drugs...sex, food, money...anything we obsess over. i hate that, it runs off a newcomer fast, so I always talk to em after a meeting if I'm there when it happens.

The focus needs to be exactly as the traditions state, we dont care what or how much you used, only what you want to do about your problem and how we can help. Semantics/names/types/methods mean nothing. The NA 12 step dont even say drugs in it anywhere, we dont care.

yeah some old timers are really protective of AA and want to keep it pure. I understand the arguements from both sides.

My thing is, the AA preamble states that the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. So if the addict has that desire, no matter how fleeting, they are welcome to attend.

There are also cards used to open the meetings and they say, Please confine your discussions to those problems that relate to alcoholism.

exactly...some of the newcomers don't even know all of this stuff...the club I go to has a couple of Nazi's in it...it realy is the most bizarr club I've been to in GA. We even have a dress code! But hell, I got sober there....so I can't complain.

I'd like to check out some more NA meetings.

well i am not an addict nor a drinker, i choose to give up to share my wifes sobriety. it has been since 01/28/07. my wife had almost thirteen years sober before she went out on 01/27/07. her 13th birthday was supposed to be this March, she is clean again, but it is rought going. she is down to 5 mins sometimes. but has been clean for 4 days now. and it was meth that took her out this time.

it is best not to tangle with anything when you are an addict :hs:

have you tried any support groups like al-anon?
