I've been having sime hip issues lately and my coach and trainer have reccomended what is known as ROLF massage therapy. It is supposed to make you cry but be incredibly good for loosning up muscles. I'm skurred :noes:

I've been doing the ART, which from what I understand and have experienced is more along the lines of chiropracty. The ART has been good and I've gotten a lot of motion back in the joint, but the Rolf is more for loosening the hamstrings and easing what appears to be hip flexor tendonitis.

Been wanting to try it years ago when I first heard about it...never did find a practitioner in my area...at least at the time.

Update us on how it goes.

Yep. Was named after Ida Rolf, who developed it.

Your muscles have an emotional memory. When you free up the knots some of the chemicals that produced the emotion associated in that particular knot you may end up crying getting super sad or you may get angry. It's real and its really wierd.

I'm a massage therapist and I've done it on accident a few times. It's happened to me too. Even if you don't get a rolfing massage, it wont hurt if you get a theraputic one. It helps with toxicity and the build up of lactic acid.

Agreed. I'll be perfectly honest with you. I don't buy into 100% of it but you can't deny the results. The net result is that at the end of the massage you're more relaxed be it from emotional release or from muscle tension release. Theyre both related.

    Either way it helps.

Personal opinion on that one. Sometimes a Rolfing massage can make you more worn out. at least for the day. Just drained, but it really is a case by case basis.

The guy who told me it made him cry is probably the toughest guy I know and he said it was close to the worst pain he had ever had, and he had the same injury as I did.

If you don't believe in the body's physicality altering chemical composure and balance, you really should read, for like, 5 minutes, or something...

yes, because "chemical composure and balance" is exactly the same as "balance in the gravitational field" :ugh:
