Friend of mine has comcast here in houston with a business account and doesn't pay for a static ip so only has dynamic.

The problem is her internet connection goes out at least once every 2 weeks because the router can't pull the ip address from the comcast modem anymore. To fix the problem you have to do a reboot of the entire system. Pull the cable from the modem, unplug modem, unplug router. ARgg...

Talking to comcast today (fuckin jerks). After rebooting my laptop hooked directly into the modem and no firewalls running I still couldn't release my ip. Kept getting a 192,168.1.*** number. Comcast jerk said the router should be giving a 10.1.***.*** number. I had to get a different fucking laptop and disable all the firewalls to finally confirm the router was allowing internet access. Then to fix the problem on the rest of the computers of the house I had to reset the router.

I have DD-WRT on all the routers (2 repeaters) and on Router 1 I have OpenDNS setup to create a static IP.

This issue has been going on for months. What's the deal here?

EDIT: BTW the comcast dude hung up on me when I asked this question. fucking jerk

both numbers are private ip addresses. unless your modem has nat built in and assigns a private ip, only a router would hand those out. (or if you statically set it on the computer)

what is the model number of the modem?

 That's funny, they're searching for complaints on Twitter.
