the difference from 10mm and 17mm is HUGE. theres only 5mm overlap between the 10-22 and 17-50. if anything, the 17-50 is attractive for someone that doesnt wanna throw down on a 17-40L or 16-35 IMO.

It's too bad that the 17-40L is a stop slower than the Tamron 17-50 though.

I just broke ... err obliterated my Tam 17-50. Wat's up with the "new" one? Anything different? If not, I am not going to replace it with another Tamron, maybe the 17-40 L.

What did you break? I busted my beauty ring and UV holder... I just sent a $16 check to Tamron USA for for the replacements.

In a rush, I was swapping lenses and forgot to zip up my bag. So when i threw it around my shoulder it went flying out and hit the concrete, ugg. The glass is fine, but the aperture blades are all fuxored and the front ring is broken. C'est la vie!

Had a similar accident with my 24-70. I had just switched lenses, put the 24-70 back in the camera bag and closed the flap but I didn't zip it up. Girlfriend picked up my camera bag and out it fell.
