what needs to be done?
save mysql tables + all content
then just edit the config files to point to your new sql host?
that was what i thought too, but was not sure totally
and not sure how i go about the second part
it should be pretty straight forward. The most important part is the wp-content folder/database.
So like make the backup of the database via phpmyadmin.
Then you can edit the config file in wp-config.php
define('DB_NAME', 'putyourdbnamehere'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'usernamehere'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'yourpasswordhere'); // ...and password
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value
just replace with your new database information which you imported
so just export the database and download the entire site via ftp?
cool thanks man, i forgot i have editted database config files before
do I need to tick/untick anything from the options page under export
so you go to the actual database.
then go to export
then on the left select all the fields
then export type as sql
check "save as file"
and choose zip or gzip
thats about it
this therad just reminded me to back up my tables
i havent done so in months
thanks, giving it a go now
you might also have to check
Add DROP TABLE / VIEW / PROCEDURE / FUNCTION
i cant remember. But yeah just dont delete the database from your server yet until its all smooth
ok i got the files from him and now i am confused
i understand about installing wordpress and uping the themes and shit, how do i up a mysql database and where do i put it?
i have created database before through cpanel and what not, bu never uped an already made one
in your cp there should be a link to phpmyadmin, like browning said, import the file and it will do the rest magically.
fuck you guys are up early today
netfirms was set up a little different, but i think i got it
i go to bed late and up early all the time
I'm up at 5am everyday now
export mysql db, save your theme from wp-content
I copied the whole site for him
Lol I'm such a noob, I moved a site the otherday... I just changed the nameservers...ugh, I'm a mess
There are plugins you can download and install that do it for you.
