In the "Face the ranks" section they had a small writeup on a recruit in bootcamp who broke the previous record of 76 pullups by doing 92. Thats freaking insane. I would feel safe in saying that only 10-15% of the Marine Corps can do the maximum counted of 20 on there PFT and this kid does 92. And for those wondering.. 1 pullup = all the way down arms fully extended..then back up - repeat

i heard about this awhile back. but i wouldnt say its safe to say only 10-15% of the Marine Corps could only do 20 pullups. Majority of the Marines i'm around could do 20 for their pft. And i usually see a majority of Marines doing 20, when we do pft's.

Well then maybe its just my unit, but the majority I see never do 20...usually 15-17. Even bootcamp only 5 people out of my platoon of 60 graduating did 20 on there final pft. I'm sure it varies from unit to unit and my numbers are off...but you get what im saying....20 isnt easy to do....

I'd say half of the younger officers can crank out 20. I know a guy that can do 50. 92 is absolutely insane though.

  7. Wow.. I bet tehking can do like 93 though.

92 is sick...most I could do was 17, and that was when i had a pull up bar in my room.

    it's kinda motivating however

Yeah, I never understood the guys that could only do like 8. If you do them often enough they go up pretty quickly.

Have you guys moved to the new PT where you do activities that relate to your MOS. Like the arty guys lift shit to simulate lifting up shells?

No all we do is run run run run, and run some more....Nevermind getting stronger and being able to actually lift shit...IMO the Marine Corp is to big on running and not doing other shit like lifting weights, etc.... Pullups, pushups, and crunches can only take you so far, strength wise.

Reminds me of last summer when one of our Sgt's was pissed off at our command so on a BN PT session his cadence had no rythm what so ever.

"We're gonna run, run, run, run...run...run...run....run run run, runnn."

Although not motivating at all I did find it funny as hell.

The Marine Corps thinks that running and cardio will build the muscle needed to do lots of pullups. Nevermind nutrition, exercises targeting the muscles needing work, and adequate recovery time. Just run!
