I went shooting for the first time with my friend and wasn't listening to him when he said my eye was too close to the scope. I'm an idiot :mamoru:

Ive been slightly by my buddies 7mm rem mag. Not badly though.
his brother on the other hand.

He got WAY to close the first time he fired it. It hits him, he turns, and it broke his oaklyes clean in half RIGHT on the nosepiece. It was hilarious.

My remington just barely tapped me once, not enough to leave a mark. My future brother-in-law got his head cut open pretty badly once. I can't remember how many stitches, but it was quite a few.

the scar will make for a good story i suppose, but i'd rather do without it

How far away is your eye supposed to be from the scope? I'm usually about 3 inches or so away.

I've been kissed by my muzzleloader a couple times, but nothing bad. I know quite a few people who've been cut and had to get stitches though.

And if you can't see through the scope without getting close to it, you need to either move the scope forward or backward in the rings to adjust the eye relief, or buy a new scope with more relief.

Eye relief is set from the scope factory.
