I'm planning on making an iPhone interface to ClearCheckbook this weekend.

Here are some mockups I created in photoshop of some various pages:

Are there any tips and tricks when creating an iphone webapp? I've skimmed through the documentation on the apple site, but i figure it's sometimes better to hear it from someone's first hand experience.

Looks good man, an old workmate of mine is a designer and has done a fair bit of mucking about with these (He now works for some company in the UK designing WAP sites and mobile content pages.) I just sent him the link he might have something useful to add.

    Thanks.

I don't have an iphone or ipod touch so it's going to be a little tough testing this stuff.

I do have safari running on my powerbook though so at least I can test all the javascript and stuff.

I was going to ask if you had either or to test it out. Are you going to offer support for other mobile apps?

    Looks good. :coold:

    I'm debating right now...

an iphone/itouch app isn't that hard because i can still use ajax and pretty much all the same functions I'm using now.

With other mobile apps you have to take into consideration the fact that there's no pointer/clicking... so that completely fucks drop downs and a lot of the effects.

I'm not ruling it out, but I think at this time it's not too high on my list. My main focus is on the iphone type interface. I think more and more phones are going to move in that direction, so there's not really as big of a need to make it backwards compatible.

I'm not sure what you mean :dunno:

It's an iphone / ipod touch specific portal of my website. You'll be able to browse to it from the main site if that's what you're asking.

I've rewritten (a.k.a. deleted a lot of stuff) my site to look good on a wap phone.

Seriously, you need to test this on an iphone. Your best bet is to just buy an ipod touch, because it's the same thing. If you're doing this as a real business, then you'll be able to write that ipod purchase off as a business expense. It's a VERY small price to pay for future revenue. I had to do A LOT of tweaking to make stuff fit on the page. I didn't want to have to scroll too much.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. the only thing is, I bought an ipod nano when the touch came out. I was going to buy a touch but the first batch was having all those screen issues so I opted for the nano :hsd:

Go to an Apple store and spend some time there viewing it. Bring you laptop so you can make changes and keep going in and out.

I mean, that's if you don't want to spend the money on the touch or iphone right now.

I found an 8 gig iTouch on craigslist for 275. Maybe I could get the guy down to 240-250 :o

It already has the January update on it

  17. like what i meant was are you designing this for ipod users specifically? or just something to design around the iphone/touch interface just for kicks?

I'm designing it specifically for iphone/itouch users.

Only about 3% of my users are iphone/itouch users, but I'm hoping that by doing this, I can capture a lot more who don't have any other place to manage their finances on the go.

Yeah it sounds like a winning plan, but you just need to make sure the site displays perfectly on an i pod/phone

I have several friends with iphones. I had a friend check it out last night to let me know if the layout loads fine and he said it did.
