So I was surfing around the internet, and found a recipe for homemade tannerite.

Basically, all it is is Ammonium Nitrate, or 34-0-0 fertilizer you can get at any farm supply store (I know lowes carries it too, I used to work in the landscape department)

You grind the ammonium-nitrate up really fine, with a mortar and pestol, or use an old blender and let it run for a while and chop it all up.

You mix it 9 parts to 1 part oxidizer.

For Oxidizer you use Dark Aluminum Powder. You can order a pound of it on ebay for about $20 shipped.

    For example would work nicely.

AT THE RANGE you mix the 2 together very carefully.

And then...well you shoot at it. From what I've read, you need a big heavy bullet, so .22 and most pistol rounds are out of the question.

I haven't done this before, but I found a few threads on the high road about it, and a few other sites talking about it.

Has anyone messed with this stuff before? Seems like you could make 20 or so half pound containers of it for about $30 and an hours worth of time.

I think you need a fast bullet, not necessarily a heavy one. Not sure though

Kinetic energy sets it off so either a big slow or a fast small bullet.

I've made a bunch and I don't think I use that much oxidizer. I use about a tablespoon per pound. I also don't grind up the AN.

To set them off, I've only used .30-06 so far, but it works fine :dunno:

we shot a cooler full of tannerite at 1000yards with a 50BMG. We set a 5/8thich steel plate right by it. The tannerite exploded so quick that the plate didnt have time to bend it just shattered. The reaction in tannerite explosions is real quick, way faster than TNT. But its not as potent because for one you need a crap load to make a big boom, and you need to ignite it with a bullet.

is that the actual name brand tannerite? It looks like he doesn't grind his AN up either. Unless he uses a totally different combo or something :dunno:

you basiclaly need something flying faster than 2000 FPS to set it. any 22 caliber will work if its not a rimfire.

they were all reversable I think (well, they are in the newer ones) - I think some are unbreakable if you catch it on a counterhit though.

Yes they do... Its labeled 34-0-0... they quit listing it as ammonium nitrate after the Oklahoma city bombing.

Yeah I know about that. This is what I have been looking for. I was actually looking for it when my professor told me how to make it in my Soils class.
