Building a complete new machine in the new year, most probably an Intel 9550.

Considering a pair of Velociraptors in RAID 0 but after reading how Ubuntu has issues with software based raid controllers I was wondering if anyone has any experience with full hardware ones?

I'm looking at the **Adaptec 2420SA** mainly.

I'd be grateful for any advice/tips. Only real consideration is that a run 2 or 3 VirtualBox's at the same time. I don't know thsi would make a difference. Perhaps even moving to a new distro might be an idea.

    Thanks!

Adaptec's aren't bad, but I've found that they are slow... Currently, I've been using 3ware/AMCC RAID controllers, and they seem to work very well.
