hardgainers- how do you bulk?

    I have a friend who is pretty shredded, I mentioned before he has the state record (since he was the only one competing) for bench with 305 @ 154 lbs.

    he keeps complaining about not gaining any size, but i think his strict diet has to do with it.

    He eats 6 meals a day, but they consist of low fat foods (grilled chicken, oats, protein)

    I'm trying to convince him this winter to dirty bulk, where he eats pizzas, hamburgers, cheesesteaks, hoagies, and anything and everything.

    do you think it will help him gain?

    then eat, just because he eats a strict diet doesn't mean he's eating enough food. don't do the dirty bulking route, just eat clean foods but more of them

    he keeps telling me he eats so much he couldn't possibly eat more.
    I've told him to eat like I do- to the point when you burp, food comes up

    i think his problem is he eats food low in calories (remember protein is 4 calories a gram, carbs 7, fat 9)

    he needs to up either carbs and add fat to his diet for more calories.
    best be done with non lean red meats, and to the extreme, fast food,

    i used to get 3-4 doublecheeseburgers before bed from mcdonalds

    tell him to make this

    2 cup oats
    4 scoops protein
    5 tbsp pb
    16oz milk

    blend and chug. healthy and can easily pack on weight.

    your friend just sucks at eating lots of food :dunno:

    and wtf are u talking about c/p is 4, f is 9


    oh ya and what steveo said. he can bulk on only plain chicken breasts... he just needs to eat a ton of em. get him to eat lots more carbs they're easy and tastey :drool:

    oh I got one last thing to add. the whole "hardgainer" thing is bullshit and here's why:

    he weighs 154 - which means he eats enough already to maintain 154 at whatever he does

    let's say you weigh 200 - you eat enough to maintain that weight at whatever activity level

    to gain weight you'd both have to add additional calories to your diet :dunno: since you're already both eating at maintenance it's pretty much the same.

    carbs are 4 kcal/gram as well.

    He needs to eat more foods with fats though, regardless. One for calories and two for health.

    he needs fats or else he's gonna be in a shitty situation calorie wise. I don't know what I'd do without fats from nuts, seeds, oils

    his problem with fats is the reason why hes not putting on weight...

    in my "i don't know my ass from a hole in the ground" opinion going to a completely dirty bulk is just not worth it. Id rather eat till ims tuffed on decent food (fat included) and then suck down a few extra shakes then get into eating complete crap.

    then again I consider a cheeseburger to be a reasonably clean meal if i get the steamed veggies instead of the onion rings... :mamoru:

    if he's on a clean diet, he needs to eat more of it to gain, a lot of the clean foods he's eating has 1/4 of the calories in a normal cheeseburger. also, eating a lot of protein makes you feel fuller even though the calories digested arent a lot.

    Might need to up his carbs, shoot for 450g or so of mainly complex carbs.
