See people swear off singles for muscle grow. But is he advocating them for just the little push to do more and the 3/5/8's are the place where muscle growth is created.

I tend to try and do some single rep max at various times, but I feel the 2 rep max tests are the best for me.

But a good read. I certainly need to fail more on my squats, too scared of those fuckers.

I do hang cleans because they're harder and force me to be more explosive. Maybe I'm built differently, but a 185lb full clean is much easier than a 185lb hang clean.

The only thing I disagree with on that list is his condemnation of anything that prevents pain. I think gloves are for pussies as well as that pussy pad that wraps around the bar but my joints are fucked so I put knee sleeves on, the difference is unbelievable. I basically can't squat without them my knees hurt so much.

Knee sleeves don't help you lift more.

Rep range has little to do with muscle growth, it's more about total volume. So if you do one work set with 8 reps compared to 8 work sets with 2-3 reps the latter will cause more growth. Granted that's a somewhat extreme example but I hope you understand what I'm saying.

Full cleans from the floor, power cleans from the floor, full cleans from the hang or power cleans from the hang?

I think you're right. And wrong. If we're talking about full cleans from floor compared to power cleans from hang, you can go heavier on full cleans from floor. If your technique is spot on. But if you're doing 85% of your max full clean compared to 85% of your max on power clean, I think full clean would be harder.

not that I have any clients capable of performing things like full cleans and hang cleans, but at least for me, hang cleans are WAY easier than from the ground full deadlift cleans.

I was under the assumption he was talking about full cleans from the floor (floor to the front squat position) vs. hang cleans (~knees to the front squat position).

The way he says it implies that if you're doing hang cleans you should be doing full cleans because full cleans are harder, but that's not true. Hang cleans, to me, serve a different purpose and I rotate between hang cleans and full cleans.

How much do you deadlift? If I take 185 and clean it from the floor to my shoulders it is much easier than cleaning it from a hang. Maybe you have a lot of explosive strength that I'm lacking, but it's hard for me to imagine it being easier even though the distance is smaller because you have to generate much greater force to make up for the lack of momentum.

Wait, so you're comparing full cleans from the floor compared to full cleans from the hang, rite?

That link is quite helpful–thanks for posting it.

Using the terminology from that link I'm comparing power cleans from the floor to power cleans from the hang.

I'm not even sure what a full clean is anymore. Is there a partial clean?

Full clean is a squat clean. Partial clean is a power clean... I think.

If that's the case, then I'm talking about a partial/power clean from the floor vs. a partial/power clean from the hang. Either way, it's easier for me to do the same weight from the floor than it is from the hang because of the momentum I can build. The hang clean forces me to be more explosive, which is more difficult.
