Hard to squat without the pad on the bar...

    Even at only 225lb I can barely stand the feeling of that weight without a soft pad around the bar. I broke my collar bone about a year ago and it didn't heal correctly, could that have any bearing?

    Learn to carry the bar lower on your back. It should be right below your traps and sitting on top of your rear delts.

    ya, it shouldn't hurt unless you are resting on the wrong part of you back. i can see it hurting like hell if you have it too high. but if you rest it in the right place, it almost feels like a nice deep trap massage with each rep! :eek5:

    it helps if you flex your traps thus making a shelf for the bar to sit on. Squat where the bar is most comfortable. Ditch the pad if possible.

    i had this problem too, just load up like 135 lbs or so and see where its comfortable, shit it around, try new ways to hold it, thats what i did and im fine now

    Adjust where you're holding the bar until it's more comfortable.

    every person i've ever seen squatting with the pad was working with < 300lbs, usually WAY less. Coincidence?

    i used the pad when i started out, i think i got rid of it after 275 though :eek3:

    you're the one making the irrelevant correlation :dunno:

    that i am saying people that squat with the pad are generally weak does not imply anything about those who squat without it.

    It is a safety hazard.

    It effectively creates a cylindrical bearing around the bar.
