What's the best hard drive recovery utility that you guys know of?
I was trying to repair my installation of XP, and it bombed, so I had to reinstall XP. After booting back up, windows can't load my 300GB drive, saying that it needs to be formatted. I can't lose this harddrive because it has all of my pictures on it! I was in the process of backing up the pictures, but I had only backed up to 2005... Anyone know of any good programs?

I've had good luck with GetDataBack.

I've had nothing but good luck with OnTrack Pro. Seems to work the best, and have used it for the last 5 years now. On customers, clients and work machines.

Either if the HD has died, a format screw up, etc, I've always been able to recover data off the drive it seems like no matter what.

A few people have said SpinRite can salvage any drive that still spins.

If a HD is toast by physical damage or the heads are damaged, no SW is gonna pull data off no matter what.

Your only option at that point is a clean room :mamoru:

P.S. I love the things like "in the freezer" tricks and "upside down" stuff

Heh, if the regular stuff doesn't work, I'm going to be doing all that crazy stuff. I'll do all that standing on my head, holding a monkey if it means that I can get my data back.

For that software OnTrack Pro, is the full name "OnTrack EasyRecovery Pro"?
