Hi all. I am installing a 3rd hard drive on my computer and I think my hard drive may be bad. I did have the drive originally on RAID but whenever I would put files on the drive they would become corrupted. At first they would work ok but after a reboot or just sitting on the drive for X amount of time, they would corrupt. I also tried to access a directory on the drive ( it's assigned X: ) and it gave me a runtime error from the C: disk.

Here is an example of how a picture got corrupted:

Currently my configuration is as such:

    Primary IDE:
    • Plextor CD-R (Master)
    • Maxtor 120gig HD (Slave) <-- the potentially bad drive

    Secondary IDE:
    • Maxtor 40gig HD (Master)
    • Maxtor 40gig HD (Slave)

Here are my specs too in case it will help:
    AMD Athlon XP 2700
    MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR mobo
    768mb DDR ram
    Plextor CD-R PX-W1210A
    2 Maxtor 5T040H4 HD's (40 gigs each)
    1 Maxtor 6Y120L0 HD (120gigs) <--- one that's giving me problems
    GeForce 4 Ti 4400

    Thanks for your help.

have you used this hard drive successfully before?

why not try to use an ide controller so you don't have the cd drive and hard drive on the same cable (probably not it, but just the only thing i could think of)
