My slave hard drive willl boot up and run no problem for the most part, but then it will make a clunking noise, and freeze the whole PC. It will then stop workign for a long time. Is it dead? :wtc:

How old is it? I guess I could then ask, how loud is the sound and is it constant? Is it more of a grinding or clunk? However, I would probably backup the data and replace it to be sure. Clunking and/or grinding is never a good sign with a hard drive.

Agreed, first you'll hear clunking noises then you'll start to get errors when reading/writing files, you should start backing up data soon before it gets worse then download a testing utility from the manufacturer and RMA it.

Its an old fujitsu, its a loud clunk, but no grinding, ive begun moving stuff to my master. Is this fixable, or is it time for a new one?
