Well here goes, i am installing a new Maxtor 7200 RPM 80GB hard drive into my IBM Aptiva P2 450Mhz computer. I physically mounted it in there with no problems, attached the ATA connector and power cable. When i went to boot up the system it came to the aptiva screen, then beeped once and brought up this message :
    "0130668 KB Memory Good
8603. PS/2 Pointing device error or not connected"
I went into the setup and the system did locate the new hard drive and all other hardware, but has an arrowing next to pointing device, which says none. I checked up on the IBM site to get some help and all it says about error 8603 is "system board". I have no idea what this means, could anybody point me in the right direction as to what is wrong ???? :sadwavey:

Sounds like nothing to do with your HD, and everything to do with your mouse

does the problem go away when you unplug the new drive?

did you attach the cables correctly? ARE YOU SURE? :big grin:

usually the red wire of the power cable and the red wire of the ribbon cable face inwards toward each other.
