I had a second hard drive connected to my computer through an IDE controller that I stored backup info on. Today when I turned my computer on, the computer didn't recognize the hard drive, and said that the hard drive wasn't formatted. I know that their is still data on it, and my question is, how would I go about getting the information off of it? Can I just hook it up to another computer as a slave and be able to access it or will the computer not be able to read it without formatting it first. What are my options to getting access to the information on the hard drive?

try it on another computer. If it doesn't work there, then the drive is bad, or the partition is corrupt, and you'd have to do data recovery.

But try it in another computer, first.
