My girlfriend's hard drive in her laptop has recently started clicking.

She can't decide whether to pay to fix for another problem in her laptop (~$100) and hope the hard drive lasts a few more months or go ahead and buy a new one.

How long do you guys think it will last?

Get a new HDD ASAP and stop using that one.
Get an external HDD and back everything up if possible.

She already has an external hard drive and has backed everything up. She's trying to save money, but her power chord is also broken and it's around 100 for a new one. She is afraid of buying a new power cord and then having her hard drive die when she could just buy a new cpu. We just don't know how long hard drives tend to last once they start clicking.

you can get a new hdd <$100 so get a targus universal power adapter for $50 and you save a lot of money over buying a new machine.

I've seen drives last months with clicking, and I've seen them die in under a day. It all depends. Don't trust it.
