Happy B-day iPod

iPod was released on Oct 23rd 2001. The one-and-only 5GB model cost $399 and was Firewire only (which worked because it was Mac only also). Windows compatibility didn't happen until 2002 and FireWire clung on as Apple's preferred interface until the 5G iPod arrived in late 2005. From being a source of derision to a market-dominating product that elicits cries of monopoly from competitors, the iPod has changed Apple, the music industry and, arguably, the world as we know it.

He says thick instead of thin when describing it, unlike the past few years.

    example: .78 inches thin

2001 seems like not so long ago. But then you see the tech back then and it seems like a lifetime ago in that respect.

I remember having a creative muvo squared with the 4gb one inch hard drive in 2004. Even in 2004, that was cutting edge.

My 3G iPod still serves me well. My 1G is a bit too old at this point but still works.

Now none of them are firewire and macbooks don't even have firewire ports. Many are also under 5gb. :hsugh:

I think he looks more healthy now (as in weight wise) than he did in 2001.

True dat. Most still charge over Firewire with the exception of the 3G iPhone though I believe.
