Am I cheating myself out of a better workout by using arm slings/straps?
When i use the arm straps I feel it more in my abs.
i like the straps, i basically "Strap" myself in and let me lower body hang and lift from the abs (with stabilizing assistance)
i feel like i get the longest contracting of the muscles this way, feels a lot better than doing crunches
without is fucking hard as shit.
straps are the shit, but theyre expensive.
Make sure that you don't have an arch in your lower back becuase thats not contracting your abs.
are you tryign to work your hip flexors or your abs?
I was reading an article and on bodybuilding.com and it said that hanging leg raises also help give you a strong grip. Obviously you don't get that with arm straps.
I honestly wouldn't do hanging leg raises for abs. Leg raises mainly work your hip flexors- unless you are only contracting your abs when you bring you legs up. Most people arch their lower back which will actully stretch your abs out and cause a stretch weakness. Weighted decline crunches where you only contract your abs are a good work out and for lower abs the verticle leg crunch is really good.
you cant be serious...my abs looks insane when im show ready an all i do is these an regular crunchs. If you swing to much have someone support your back so you dont arch. Nothing hits your abs like these. Do any of you even know what your abs look like
haha yes i have abs and i've taken collge level kineseology classes. I'm sure you are doing them the correct way, but the majority of people don't do them correctly and it makes your abs the antagonist of your lower back and hip flexors which doesn't contract them.
thats why you get someone to support you, also its all in were you let your legs drop...most drop them straight down an thats a no no. Also the tempo needs to be very slow an controlled. People shouldnt do them without an ab base, that will agree with.
im sure they are strong but dont get carried away little broly
sure i will...do leg raises with 50 between your feet for 20+ reps an 5 sets supersetted with regular crunchs for 20 reps, besides your range is like 2" with that fuel tank for a sex machine your sporting

whats the proper form for decline? full rom? back straight or rounded at top of motion?
the motion doesnt feel natural for my back
i do them strapless, because i want to work on my grip also. when i do them i use a pelvic thrust, you'll feel it alot more in your abs then hips. If anyone seen thefitshow ep with stan mcquay you'll know what i'm talking about.
Can you elaborate on that technique a bit more? At what point in the motion are you doing a pelvic thrust?
not the best exercise to evaluate abdominal strength
i have never used straps but im sure with out them it is harder becasue you have to stabalize everything thing just to execute the exercise.
