i know some of ya'll have done this. what's the legal way to ship a handgun from private seller to buyer? i've heard that you have to have an FFL holder ship it to another FFL holder, and i've heard that the private seller can just ship it straight to the buyer's FFL. what's the truth? thanks.

i dont think you HAVE to do it that way. But you do have to ship to an ffl holder. Like a gun shop. But you have to get a copy of the ffl first.

    i may be wrong

yea, that's what i thought, but now my douchey FFL is saying that he needs to take it to a gunshop to have it shipped, which will charge an extra 50 bucks!!

Yep you can ship it yourself to an FFL, I've heard of FFL's not taking guns shipped from private sellers though only other FFL's stupid practice on there part

well shit. i've called 2 gunshops in my area and they say it's illegal to send it from a private seller to a FFL, and that you HAVE to ship it from FFL to FFL. dunno if my purchase is gonna happen:wtc:

ok, just found one that does those kind of transfers and he said he'll do it for 25. now here's the big question. is a pistol purchase permit good statewide? or is it limited to the county you get it in?

yea, i know, but what he was telling me was that i had to pay him $20 to receive it, but then i had to pay his FFL 50 bucks to ship it. might as well buy a god damn new gun for that much.

If it's outside the state (and I don't think he said if it was same state or not, if he did, I missed it) he can't do a FTF. It'll have to go through an FFL.

purchase permit should be good anywhere in the state, you just have to get it from local police. it is NOT illegal for a private seller to ship to an FFL, some dealers are just old and stubborn and think they have some special super-power and they just want to be dicks. find a good dealer that will accept shipments from non-dealers and make sure your face is in there often. make sure he gets ALL your business.

I was gonna ask if you'd heard anything on yours. I keep watching this thing travel all over the place. TX / AL / GA / VA (SO CLOSE!), and then MD....dammit...left the state.

Anyone can ship a firearm TO an FFL. Only an FFL can receive.

I don't think an individual who's shipping to an FFL needs a signed in ink copy either. You get the FFL info, check https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/ to make sure it's legit, then ship to the FFL.

gotta go ups/fedex/etc you cannot ship a handgun in the US mail

most of those carriers will want you to overnight it too.

a person can ship to any person in their state and to an ffl anywhere. you do not have to have an ffl send it for you
