Alright, here's the deal. This isn't just another Pistol A vs. Pistol B thread, please see my reasoning before actually saying "get the ____". I want to buy my first handgun but have sort of a dilema.

I've narrowed it down to either the Glock 17 or a Beretta 92FS. I like the Glock better than the 92FS, no doubt about that, but after boot camp when I go to MCSF school i'll be issued an M9 and will use and carry that for the next 1.5 years. This is basically the only reason i'm even considering the 92FS because it's what i'll have to use in the Corps. Don't get me wrong, I still like the 92FS, just not as much as the 17.

If i'm a great shot with a Glock 17, would that translate into being a good shot with the 92FS/M9?

Should I buy the Glock 17 which is what I really like, or should I get the 92FS which is what i'll basically be using in the Corps and i'll be able to get well acquainted with it and show up to MCSF school shooting expert :x:.

    HELP

Will they let you use your own Glock in the service?

Owner of both. Get the Glock. No reason to start the suffering before you have to.

    lol

why does everyone hate Berettas so much? they are well made guns, just not up to the task of being an issue gun to our boys. for a range gun, or home defense, Beretta is fine. its just not going to make it to a million rounds like a Glock will

the problem with the M9 isnt the gun, its the cheap 3rd party mags the military uses. the M9/92fs is a reliable gun with beretta mags.

you do indeed have a dilemna, not sure what I would do if I were you. The glock is the better gun.. but you have a good reason to get a 92fs

I have a 92fs and love it, but krott is right about the mag problem. I bought an aftermarket mag and have had problems with it from day 1. The original equipment mags work great. I will say that it take a little more time to get used to then a glock. But once you are familiar with it they are a great gun. What is the primary purpose of this gun? If it self defense I would go with the 92 for the sole reason you will be trained in it and its operation and feel will be second nature to you if you ever have to use it. But is it the best gun on the market... no

  13. Get the Glock or an XD, who wants a Beretta with a slide action safety blah.

  18. I've had my XD9 for quite a while, it's been in rain, dust, dirt, water, sweat and it has very little surface rust, but then again, I actually use this pistol for field purposes and it's not just some object that I take pictures of and beat off to every night like the majority of the people on here that don't like them because of rust.

The problem is that if you get the Beretta you'll probably be training yourself, right? Most self-trained shooters have more problems that need correction than people who have never shot. I see a lot of things like adjusting sights to compensate for poor trigger control or follow through and fucked up grips. If you get the 92 you'll probably teach yourself some bad habits that the Corps. will have to beat out of you.

Get either gun and get some training very early on.

I have an honest question. Do you carry it every day?

  21. Yes I do, the truth is, I wasn't to appealed by rust on the slide myself, I've been a glock owner for the last 10 years and have never experienced any rust on their coatings. After using the XD I was really impressed, just the ergonomics of the sidearm and reliability and accuracy wins me over with this guy. The rust doesn't bother me anyway, it's not like the dead guy that gets shot by it is going to complain about my handgun being rusty before he took the hit ya know. I mean if you hate the rusting on them that bad just apply a layer of gunkote and the issue is solved.
