Hand placement on close grip bench?

    How far apart should the hands be? I remember hearing 8 inches but I'm not sure.

    Do you people bring rulers to the gym or something?
    I put them at directly at shoulder width.

    really...

    when i do close grip. i keep my elbows directly against my side and then grasp the bar underhand grip...

    for regular i've got my middle finger on the rings and elbows out

    Most of the time my close grip is pinky on the rings.

    Too close and my shoulders start to hurt.

    I do the opposite, I flare my elbows out.

    I thought most people do pointer finger next to the smooth part? My elbows flare out when I do this.
