who uses them, who likes them, how useful are they? I get annoyed w/ straps getting in the way from time to time when I'm taking shots. Also, I know they make them for Canons, what about Nikons?

i think a normal neck strap is fine, as long as it has a quick connect

I have medium sized hands, and I find it very useful to use the hand strap. It's nice to just be able to secure the camera on one hand, and not have the neck strap on.

I love the neck strap and I see it useful for the D80 since I don't use it as often, but on the D300 I would see the hand strap a bit more useful... but what I don't know is how useful would the shutter button on the grip would be if its pretty much tight on my hands. :dunno:

IIRC, there's no handstrap that works with a grip on the camera. The way it attaches fucks up the vertical grip on the camera.

(hopefully someone proves me wrong here, cuz I really want a hand grip that works with both grips on my d80...)

Looks like you Nikon guys need a base plate for a hand strap
    [IMG]
Us canon guys need a grip to attach a hand strap

I don't like to use the grip to shoot vertical, cause the ergonomics of the grip suck.

Used to have one on my XTI and I definentally miss it with the 40D. It just makes it easier for me when shooting vertically, especially since I have some big ole' hands

I like them, but I think I'd get annoyed having to take it off everytime I use a tripod/ monopod.

Do you plan on carrying both the D80 and the D300 at the same time? If so, where are you going to put the D300 when you're shooting the D80 if all you have is a hand grip?

The D80 usually sits strapped over my shoulder, hanging on my back until in need it. The D300 is in my hands w/ the strap loosely over my shoulder for easy access. I usually have the D300 in my hands, ready to fire away. :big grin:

I don't know about that first one... but why is it on a Canon? :squint:

Second one is the one I had in mind and I see a lot of Canon guys use... just didn't know if there was a similar one for Nikons and questioning the usefulness of it. :dunno:

Speaking of straps, the neck strap that comes with the G9 is absolutely horrible!

Yeah, Nikon fucked up. Instead of attaching it directly to the camera like on the 5d, I have to attach a big-ass plate to the bottom of the grip which, when I shoot with the vertical grip, gets in the way. I do feel more secure shooting with it though.

I find myself not using the neck strap at all recently. It makes my neck sweat after having it on a while. It sucks because the neck strap gets in the way whenever I am shooting, doesnt matter if Im shooting portrait or landscape orientation. I dont want to remove it because I like to sling it over my shoulder when I want to rest or whatever.

I know, I was putting that out there. Neck strap ALWAYS gets in the way and hand is good for landscape but could be tedious to get into landscape if you have a grip
