HALP! trying to set up vbulliten.. (DO IT FOR ME AND MAKE MONAYY!)

and i am lost when i get to this step..

Step 2) Connect to the database
    Attempting to attach to database
    Error description:
The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the 'includes/config.php' file.

.. the sad thing is i've done this twice before and totally forget. :ugh2:

in my config.php file i have added my username and pass for FTP, but something else is fuxed cause it still isn't working. what else do i need to add in the config file, and what is an example of what it would look like?

    thanks OT.

you set up a msql database and a user for said database. Those are the details you need to add into the config.php not your username and pass for ftp

um.. in your ../includes/ is a file called config.php.new.

Copy that to config.php and edit it with the correct settings for your DATABASE name, database user, and database password.

Depending on your host, you may not be able to use localhost as your mysql address and will need to put the name/ip of the sql server.

Werd. And just a tip -- do NOT use the "admin" or "root" user for your vB database log-in. That is a HUGE security hole.

You'd be shocked how many times I have seen people do exactly that and then wonder why they had tons of injection attacks and things getting hosed.:mamoru:

I'll do it.. and I dont need a sub.. but i do need 2 things.

A shell account with access to the forum directory and the user info for the database. Have you created a new database for this yet?

PM a number to call you at.
