I switched from yahoo to 1&1 today. I swapped everything over using SmartFTP and it went pretty smooth, but now the small PHP board I host is screwed up.
    Here's what it displays:
    Warning: mysql_connect()
Unknown MySQL server host 'mysql' (1) in /homepages/22/d245241604/htdocs/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 48

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /homepages/22/d245241604/htdocs/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 330

Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /homepages/22/d245241604/htdocs/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 331
    phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

HALP! I know just enough to be a danger to myself. Is this fixable for an idiot like myself? I still have the yahoo account active with all the files and a backup on my HDD, I just don't know what to do with them. :hs:

1and1 doesnt use localhost for the mysql location, check your mysql setup from the control panel it should list the location, username, password and dbname

    This sounds like the solution.

    imountain uses mysql.imountain.com, for example.

Frist, you'll probably need to do an sql dump of the old database and create a new one on 1and1, then import the sql dump into it. You could use phpmyadmin to do all that. Try googleing something like "phpmyadmin sql dump".

After you do that you need to update the forum to use the new database.

    I'll do it for u for a sub. mojo3120 (#at#) gmail.com

    +1 on hating 1and1

Their services are mediocre and moving away from them is a headache.

    easy fix.

Quick edit to your config file and making sure your mysql is all there and that's it.

Thanks all. It was a simple mysql setting, buut I have a greater problem now.

I totally screwed the database backup sql. I didn't do a proper backup before the domain switch so all I have are the raw data files for my forum. *.frm, *.MYD, and *.MYI text files. Anyone know a way to compress then into a sql file that PHPBB will accept as a restore?

I tried using MySQL Server 5.0 and MySQL Administrator. I created a DB and then dumped the files in it through the local HDD, since it doesn't let you import them. But when I use the backup command it's writing it in a different SQL type than the phpBB uses and it won't restore on my 1&1 DB.

I also tried making a backup of the now lame board in hopes of editing it in MYSQLADMIN, but it doesn't want to restore the phpBB version on MYSQL and vice versa.

I'm assuming they are using different versions of sql? I don't know much about databases (obviously) so I don't know if I totally screwed myself or not.

Alternatively, is there any way to extract the data from the raw text files in a way that makes viewing the topics/posts inside easier? We had a lot of good info on the BB and if worst comes to worst I may have to try and manually recreate some of the better posts on the new lame board.

The board is a phpBB 2.0.23 version.

Thanks for any help in this. I've been scouring the internets for days and trying everything I can think of, but not having any luck. My BB members are pretty pissed off at my right now.
