It was late at night so it was only me, but man once you go through the door you can sense this place is hardcore. The first thing you see is a massive sign reading "PLEASE LEAVE ALL VANITY AT THE DOOR" That was fucking cool.

Can't wait till tomorrow when I get to train with some of the guys. I'll try and get some pics some time soon.

reverse hypers and ghrs are sweet as. My hamstrings have never been so nuked after the ghrs, hey dude.

word, but living in in a smaller town, I doubt I could find one :(

Anybody (christophers, I'm looking at you) know of any directories (preferrably with Canadian content) of PL gyms?

The search function probably would have came up with this, I have it in my favorites... It's from a thread chris made awhile ago.

What exactly is a power lifting gym?

There's a gym in West Ryde that is 90% weights. The guy that owns it used to be Mr Canada and makes most of the equipment itself. It's all really good with 3x of most machines and plenty of weights, as well as a dedicated heavy/free weights section.

Is that what you are after?

Right now I'm at the UNSW Unigym - pretty commercial, but at least there's a deadlift area and 2 power racks - that'll do for now. From what most of my mates tell me, university gyms are pretty commercial aren't they?

    Is yours a university gym?

I'm more after the atmosphere that comes with a PL gym - people lifting heavy ass weights . I don't know... I just seem to find it depressing that people at my gym are doing exercises wrong - half-repping, ultra bad form, and bicep curls in the power racks :squint:... that are half-repped :squint: :squint: . I'm not perfect but Max OT and exrx has taught me how to do things right at least :hs:.

Don't bother checking out Sydney Uni's gyms, they are commercial like UNSW.

This gym is called Vince and Roz'z Fitness World, it's actually in Meadowbank now. I'm guessing that if you are at UNSW that this might be a bit far.

But there are certainly SHITLOADS of massive guys lifting big weights. There are at least a few who compete (and compete well) as well, this ain't no sissy gym. Although it still does have an alright cardio room and runs yoga/aerobics/blah blah blah classes as well. Could be worth checking out.

Thanks for that - but yeah, I would like something closer to campus - around the Eastern Suburbs would be :bigthumb:. For now I'll stick to UNSW Unigym because it has almost everything I need (I can't do reverse hypers and GHR's :squint: :squint: )

Just out of interest, is Macquarie University's gym any good? My friends say it's a hole - but that's because they mightn't have machines which are "cool" :coolugh:.

Btw, which gym do you go to?

my gym is the universities powerlifting club, its been around for like 25 years. Its below the actual universitys gym in a few smallish rooms. The room just reaks of strength

There would have to be something in the Eastern Suburbs somewhere. I'm guessing there might be something at Bondi/Coogee. There also has to be somewhere good that South/Roosters train at.

I am pretty sure Macquarie Uni's gym is a hole. I remember checking it out then deciding there was no way in hell I was working out there. Most uni gyms are filled with fools who do about 50 sets on biceps and that's their workout.

My membership has expired at that one at Meadowbank, but I'm about to rejoin in about a month when I have some more cash.

sigh... the closest powerlifting gym is about 20minutes from my house. Not to bad I guess. I think I'll sign up come summertime, when I'm home. Anyone from the Rockland County, NY/northern NJ area?
