Decided to take the P22 to the range to do some plinking. Got there, signed in, and made my way to my assigned booth. Get there, and run into a friend of mine I hadn't seen in a year or so. Sweet. Good trip so far. Get out the P22, and start throwing some lead down range.

As I'm plinking, a couple of guys set-up shop in the booth beside me. No biggie. I continue plinking. As I'm lining up a shot, trying to keep myself steady, I am suddenly interupted by a deafening 'boom' and my booth shaking.

    'WTF was that?!?!?!' :eek3:

I hear someone manually cycling a bolt. I postpone my next shots while I investigate what exactly was being shot beside me. I brace for the next shot. BOOM!!! This time, I notice a shower of flames/sparks spraying out from the next stall.

I think to myself, 'Hmmm. Large boom. Shower of flame. Could this be the famed Mosin I always hear about in WMD?'

I see the guy's hand place an empty 7.62x54R casing on the table between us. Gotta be a Mosin. I peak my head into the next booth. What I see confirms my suspicion:

    Complete with bayonet.

I try to continue my plinking while the Mosin was rocking, but found that I couldn't hit shit because I was constantly shitting my pants everytime he lit off a round. After about 25-30 rounds, my ears had had enough. My cheap S&W muffs weren't doing a damn thing. I waited for him to reel his target back in so I knew he was done, then popped in a set of earplugs to supplement my muffs. :x:

Well, this didn't work well enough either as I was still being rattled every 10-20 seconds. I decided I'd had enough.

I packed up my shit and left.

    Thanks Mosin guy. Thanks. :squint:

    p.s. I think I want a Mosin now....

I was shooting my 91/30 a while back and the guy two benches over apologizes to me that his M1a was kinda loud and I just shrugged that it was no big deal. I put the 91/30 away and got out my Winchester 94 30-30 Ranger (16" barrel) and fired off a few rounds. The guy next to me looks at it and says wow. I just chuckled and said thats why I didnt think the M1a was a big deal.

I'm confused... 7.62X54 ain't shit... 8mm is much worse than that, but i did have a similar experience when i went to the range with my g/f's dad. I'm plinking with my AR, and then he starts shooting his .358 shooting times alaskan. :wtc:

Edit, for those who don't know the .358 STA:
5000 ft lbs of energy, 3000fps.

Solution? Buy a bigger gun so you are the one making people leave the range.

The surplus has a pretty healthy bark out of the short barrel. Some guy was shooting a 300 Remington Ultra Mag at the range next to me once, the first time he fired one off was jarring to say the least. I also remember this guy shooting a .243 rifle next to me once at an indoor range. I got used to the noise, and all of the sudden this huge sound and a flame appeared in front of the divider wall. I thought he had blown the gun up, but it turned out he was shooting a short-barreled 460 Smith and Wesson revolver.

Muzzle break on a 7mm mag can make people next to you move pretty quickly :naughty::naughty:

or get an already loud round, and then put a really good muzzle brake on it :o

For those to the sides of me, my AR is WAY worse than 8mm/x54R

Hehe nice. I just can't get behind obnoxious calibers for some reason... I dunno.

My friend has a Colt AR with the 16" barrel, he put a different muzzle break on it. It doesn't kick at all, feels like a .22, but it is LOUD.

I go for the one that gives me the ability to kill and roast the thing I am shooting. The 7.62x54r surplus does just that with the muzzle flash. Plus, the M44 has another great feature, a fold-out skewer for your game.

I want this rifle... It's 308 but that break should make it annoying as fuck :o:o

I want to get my barrel on my New England .308 threaded for a muzzle break. That gun jumps around a lot when you fire a round through it.

Pics of your AR? I have a very boring 16" plain jane flat top RRA w/ A2 break.

I actually want a Remington 700 LTR... then I'll have that threaded for a break, and a can.
