    Congrats.

Naga lets you compete in beginner and intermediate at the same time?

Does that mean you can't compete at beginner again?

I signed up as beginner originally. The intermediate division only had one guy fighting in it so the ref asked me if I wanted to step up. Took him on and made him work for his win. I liked how the guy in intermediate gave me a real challenge, and liked how I made him and his whole team panic when I started threatening him with triangle choke attempts.

The ref and the judge saw how I did in both divisions. They talked to me and my coach after the awarding. They're bumping me up to intermediate from now on. I took that as a compliment :)

Once I get my blue belt I have to fight intermediate in no gi per NAGA rules anyway.

    hahah i love your speech!

Couldn't have done it without you guys!

It's a habit of mine to say thank you to everyone after every tourney. Please take the time to read this. I have to give credit where it's due.

This goes out to all of you whom I believe was involved in helping me achieve what I did in the recent NAGA North American Grappling Championships. It is so far the best weekend of my grappling career. I owe my wins to all of you, and with total humility I say that without your help I am nothing as a fighter or a competitor.

First off I'd like to say thank you to my coaches; Bennie Little and Marco Delima, for taking the time to teach me what I know despite not being the most physically and technically able student in your camps. Thank you for giving me the liberty to cross train wherever and with whomever that I choose. I truly appreciate this freedom. You guys are an inspiration for me to succeed in this sport, and to someday be a great teacher, mentor, and father.

Thank you to my main teams (or rather...families) at CT Academy of Kickboxing / No Rulez Fight Team, and Team Delima BJJ for the support, training, and ass kicking that got me into fighting form. Thank you for the other gyms that graciously opened their doors for me to cross train in for this event - Plus One Defense Systems and Team Handol BJJ. Thank you for treating me like one of your own students.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to roll with me and wrecked the fuck out of me. The small techniques you guys taught me paid huge dividends in the end. Every second spent with you guys added up to everything that I currently know and have in my arsenal...and I am extremely grateful for that. Every tap, be it mine or yours, helped me improve my ground game.

Thank you for everyone who helped get my mental and emotional focus back. You guys gave me my heart back to train and believe in myself again. Kid, Vee, Hillary, Moises, and Bennie...thank you so much for kicking me in the head when I needed it the most.

Thank you very much to my family, who had no other choice but to support me in this, because it's something I found a passion for. I love you guys.

Thanks to Kid for being a great little sister, who drove me to NJ in the wee hours in the morning, played the role of photographer, assistant coach, cheerleader, and just an awesome friend. You've been there for me at every NAGA...I appreciate that.

Thanks to this certain Panda (aka the Minja!), whose good luck kiss over the phone (damn you, swine flu) meant the world to me...and became the kiss of doom to everyone who stepped on the mats with me. Thank you for believing that I would do well in this event. Thank you for giggling while choking me out multiple times when we rolled. That was traumatic and pushed me to step up my game lol. You were my main motivation for this one :)

Once again thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. This means a lot to me. I'll thank you guys personally when I see you.

For the record here is what I accomplished:

NAGA 2009 North American Grappling Championships

1st Place - Masters Flyweight No Gi Beginners
2nd Place - Masters Flyweight No Gi Intermediate
2nd Place - Masters Flyweight White Belt

pshhh i think he jsut wore a black belt.

    he tapped out otavio souza

and then he destroyed both of romulo barral's legs, with two toe holds, and a super tight and ridiculous kneebar.

romulo couldnt walk at all afterwards, but won on an adv point :hs:
