Is there a such thing as it being too new? I bought it used, but I don't think it was that old.

Well I am using bannerbomb. It tells me to find installer.elf on the bootmii file and change it to boot.efl. I can't find the installer.elf file though. ugh!

I used WiiHacks but gbatemp for the latest updates for everything

Both are good sites, many others are just a clusterfuck of poor/outdated information.

Some sites still refer to the Twilight hack

I hacked mine with the walkthrough on WiiHacks. I never could get any of the burned games to work. I ended up with ~10 coasters, so I reverted back. I am sure it was the crappy Fry's house brand DVD-Rs I was using, but I gave up.

Quite likely, wii drive is picky as fuck.

Used about 30 DVD+Rs on mine no problems.
Burnt 26 games for my brother on the same disks and his fucking Wii wouldn't read a single one. He's had to reburn them all to some cheap DVD-Rs that work on his.

does it still brick your wii if you have homebrew channel?

No idea, i've not gone further than 4.0 :noes:

    Those guides cover it though.

Guessing more games will required latest updates though :sad2: no idea how that might work for those not on the net..

Upating to 4.2 can brick your wii if you do it through official update, but all the stories I've heard was that it just deletes any unauthorized content like the Homebrew Channel by attaching it to the system menu. Every time the system menu opens it detects the homebrew and makes it inaccessable and useless instead of just doing an update that deletes the IOS and what not that make the homebrew channel possible.

Updating through the homebrew channel to 4.2 was pretty easy actually and I had no problem. They even have a c-IOS fix that will allow you to use the 4.2 shopping channel.

    homebrew works now.

The latest priloader program is awesome. I have my wii setup so as soon as i turn it on it automatically boots into my usb game loader which also has a homebrew browser and wad browser built in. No more annoying warning screens or anything.

all games work now although super mario might not work if you dont have a modchip and you plan to play from a disc. Good thing is its small enough to fit on a 1 or 2 gig usb card.

All games tend to work, you just have to update the backup loader sometimes.

However New Super Mario Bros is being quite difficult :o There is a USB loader version that works no problems but last I checked the burnt versions are very hit and miss across the consoles.

There have been a couple of games that have required (at least at first) a small file to help it load or something (Ghostbusters and NFS I think?)

The 3.2-4.0 mod is simple if you follow every step. 4.2 looks a little more indepth though but well covered.

If I was to do it again i'd forget burning disks and just go for a USB loader.

    Yea this :o

I see some manage to get it to work on softmod though. I've onyl tried one possible fix so far (an early one) and that didn't work. When the USB version works straight out it seems like a lot of hassle to fuck about with disks.

House of Dead also sucks on disk.

yup I have mine plugged into a 320g external drive, which is plenty of space because most wii games are automatically compressed down when you load them on there.
