hack out AIM ads

    anyone know how to get rid of the ad in AIM that displays above ur buddy list. i got an old version 4.8.2616 cuz i dont want the new ones cuz they run a bunch of spyware on ur computer.

    The best solution is switch to something better -- such as trillian.

    but if you like aim, then download "deadaim". It gets rid of the ads I think.

    i thought deadaim was an add-on to regular aim, can it be run by itself?

    dead-aim is a hack for aim. It removes ads and gives you stuff like logging, tabbing, and alphablending.

    Trillian is a replacement that can be run by itself.

    i wish i could get gaim man i cant get it to work with my SuSE though i downloaded it off suse.com and then when i try to install it i get some errors about its missing two files they both are libaspell something with numbers
    i looked it up on google and found they are spell check programs
    i think i can DL them somewhere but i dont know where to put them after i do that
    right now im usign the linux AIM off the AIM site and im getting kind of sick of it
    it is basically just REALLY OLD aim

    Did you try installing the version that's on add/remove programs in YaST? Works fine for me on SuSE 9.1.

    I believe it does, but I've never used it, so I'm not sure how well it works...

    Holy shite, I just realized I'm using GAIM 0.75 and thew newest version is 1.0.2 :embd: Time to upgrade.
