So I take possession of a house on Friday, and I'm looking into cancelling my gym membership and instead focusing on acquiring a home gym setup and working out in my basement where I can grunt and yell all I want.

I'm considering a very minimalistic approach to my weight set, with these things in mind:

    -Deadlifts
    -Bench Press
    -Pull-Ups
    -Squats

I figure all I will need is:

    -squat rack,
    -a few bars
    -dumbbells
-around 5,000 lbs total in weight (I'm on Animal Pak right now).
-I can build my own pull up bar down there as well (ceiling is high enough)

Is there anything else you guys can think of that I might need to add? I'm trying to stick to complete free-weight training, as I find that it's easier to get amped up for a battle with the iron, rather than cables and pulleys.

Besides the basic bench movements, squat and deadlift combos, I've got a great corner to jam one end of a bar into and do bent over rows with plates on one end. However, anything you guys can think of for different movements would be much appreciated.

I'll take pics of my place tomorrow when I get the keys, I'm pretty excited.

This failed in the main forum. I'm not sure what I was thinking by posting it there.

awesome man, home gyms are great.

    get a solid rack
    bars
    Oly DB Handles
    Adjustable Bench
I recommend a cable station... like a lat station that has a high and low cable attachment, thats all you need.

look on craigslist for the weights. www.newyorkbarbells.com has good deals, too.

you're going to pay out the ass for a DB collection. Honestly a power rack (with pull up attachment), adjustable bench, and some weights would do the job

Wow, I was posting in the wrong thread, sorry guys.

    Good advice so far.

My parents have a set of those adjustable "Power Block" dumbbells, but they only go up to 45lbs, unfortunately. I may search the buy and sell for a good deal on set.

Hmm, that rack is just under 7 feet tall, at 82.5"

    I think it'd fit! :noes:

I get possession tomorrow, so I'll measure then.
