If someone is standing in front of the dumbbell rack and you go to grab a dumbbell(s) in their vicinity do you ask if they are using them first?

I had some guy confront me because I didn't ask. He said "it's a courtesy." My feeling is that "it's a courtesy" not to do your curls/shrugs/whatever in front of the rack because it prevents people from getting to the dumbbells. If the dumbbells are on the rack then that means no one is using them.

    Thoughts?

i like to analyze the pores on my nose for a good 2 to 3 minutes while securing my straps to some 25lb dumbbells @ the dumbbell rack.

Take the db and get the hell away from the rack.

What was the outcome? did you throw the db at his face?

this one dude parks a barbell right in front of the heavy DBs so he can superset BB burls with DB

it's fucking hilarious unless you wanna use the DBs... then it sucks

this one broly ass nga almost pounded him when he was supersetting BB curls, EZ bar curls, and DB curls and resting the BB and EZ bar NEXT to eachother (so basically taking up half the rack)

    This.

One of the huge annoyances at the gym... The guys that just stand right in front of the rack/mirror and start doing shrugs/lateral raises/etc.

    If it's racked, it's yours.

I tend to do heavy stuff close to the racks, but I try to move off to the side at least and not block anyone.

But if no-one is around I'll do them right there, no point in moving if no-one is around.

I ask because I've taken them without asking for and people were still using them... just less of a hassle to get it out of the way :dunno:

last year when I was maxing on deads some broad came up and grabbed one of the 5lb plates I was using to keep the stupid hex-plates from rolling around... basically, I was holding 385 in my hand and about to drop it for another rep and she walks up, sticks her hand directly under the barbell, grabs the 5lb, and stands there for a couple seconds examining it like half a foot from my loaded barbell... :hsugh:

You should have told him to fuck off and that its rude to just stand there infront of the rack. Dont take that kinda shit off of a gym-asshole . Now your his bitch and he knows it.

If its on the rack, its up for grabs.

It's common courtesy to get the fuck out of the way when you're doing your faggot shrugs with 60lb dumbells and I'm trying to put the 120's back.

I actually ran into some dude doing that once and knocked his dumbells out of the way in the middle of a set. I give no fuck. it's not hard to take two fucking steps back so you're not completely blocking the rack.

Usually they move when they see me coming though. Pisses me off almost as much as people putting DB's in the wrong spot or just leaving them on the floor. Fucking lazy assholes.

if you are bigger than the other guy, you can usually exert your will on them. thats why besides getting money and fucking bitches, everyones goal here should be to get huge.
