Unlike most people here trying to bulk, I'm trying to lose weight. I have alot of muscle somewhere, but as it stands I'm 5'9" at 215lbs.

For now I've just been doing alot of cardio everyday (about 20-30mins) and changing how I eat. Also haven't had a cigarette in a week.

Anyways, I've been going to school gym the past few weeks. I remember the first day I was there I saw a bin of disinfectant towelettes, so after I was done working out I took one to wipe my forehead and the girl behind me took one to wipe down the bike she was working on. I felt like a douchebag.

Are there any other general gym mannerisms I should know about from F&N crew? Thanks :wavey:

    cutting weight

and use machines/benches for what they were intended for. dont do curls in the power rack

and dont try to stake your claim to a machine then get up and walk around for 10 mins

i don't know if others do this. but if i just started a set or have a bit to go still, and someone is obviously waiting on me, i just tell them they can work in if they'd like. noone ever does this to me, but i feel like a better person doing it i guess.
edit - which brings to mind a story, a friend of mine asked this one guy in our gym how many sets he had left, and they guy just grunted and said 30, don't be a douchebag

plus, even though you are there for yourself, be considerate of others, alot of times i'll watch others lifting, especially if they are doing heavy weight and make sure they make it. or even offer a spot if they don't ask.

also, don't make alot of noise, everyone will hate you for that. there are some people at my gym that think the louder they yell they more they can lift. and i think it works to an extent, but when you have 75 lb dumbbells on decline, dont scream your head off, a simple pfffffffff will do.

put your weight back when you are done with it AND in the right place

dont curl in a squat rack

the gym is for working out, not socializing

leave the cell phone in the car / book bag in your case

wipe down the 4-way neck machine if you have one

oh and if you want advice, dont ask in the middle of getting fired up / middle of a set

oh jeez, forgot about those two. some people sit on a machine and talk for about 10 minutes instead of working out. it really pisses me off on monday nights when they do that on one of our two flat benches. or when they take the bar away from the bench and use it for something else, that pisses me off also

Put your weights on the rack when you are done with them. My gym is notorious for retards who can't seem to find their way back to the place they picked their weights up from, drives me nuts.

That and when I see a group of highschool kids show up for their once a month work out and then just sit on the equipment and talk about the most worthless shit. Fuckin high school kids...

Wear a towel in the locker room? :hsugh:

As far as the disinfectant stuff goes, I'd only use it on equipment that the womenfolk primarily use more often (treadmill handles, bike seats, etc) But as far as benches or whatnot, I just wipe it down with a towel I carry around. The guys around here don't really care about disinfecting a bench.

wiping equipment varies from gym to gym. Most people around here don't do it, but for some reason the gyms up north did... :dunno:

College gyms are usually crowded. Don't be afraid to ask to work in with someone, or let someone work in with you.

I think it is completely dependent on environment and weight. If you are in a hardcore gym you shouldn't be bitching about some noise. Just like if I see someone squating 600 in any gym I am not going to care. But if some fucker is quarter squating the bar I think it is quite annoying if for nothing more than the fact that me laughing at them fucks up my workout.

thats what im talking about, if someone is benching 405 + or something yah, a yell is fine. however, we have kids there now that will bench 225 and scream on every rep. and not just an "ahhh" its an "AHHHHHHHH!"
