    no gym from home?

ignoring the core is only going to set him up for a back injury later

i never train my obliques with weight..i twist with a pole sometimes...I also do not train my abs with alot of weight.. Your abs and obliques are muscles...they will grow just like other muscles. They will also thicken to a point were you will look foolish with large obliques and narrow lats...just make sure your back is enormous and you will be ok.

excuse me if i sound really stupid but what about the whole high rep idea that it is hypertrophic and will cause muscles to grow versus going heavy and low rep?
ive read for instance on tnation that they say to get those hardrock abs you need to go heavy and train with resistance. im so confused

I gained 2" in pant size by just adding intense core workouts for about 3 months...

i find a middle of the row approach is best...i add weight to my crunches and hanging leg raises and i usually only go 10-12 reps. But i dont train them like i would.. say arms or chest

Maybe he has a lot of expensive suits and doesn't want to have to trash pants that don't fit anymore? it's a legit reason if you've got thousands of dollars in suits/trousers? heh

what was before after waist size. If you went from like a 28 to a 30, I can understand.

I have completely stopped working my obliques too. I already have a wide enough waste when looked at from the front so that is the last thing I need growing.

One of the trainers at the gym competes in Figure.
Personally I don't think she looks good at all, in terms of symmetry. Wide waist but flat ass. Then she compounds it by doing tons of heavy side bends.

I don't think I do enough core workout.

I run twice a week and then i'll do crunches(~100) and some leg lifts (25) afterwards

is that enough for my core?? or should I add another day or add weights on those two days?

You've got to work your core if you don't want to run into back problems, and you've got to work it all, not just your abs. That being said, if you're worried about your waist getting to big, train the obliques moderately. You can build strenght and endurance without adding a lot of size, use common sense and don't use weights, then your waist wont be a problem. Not training your core at all is a sure fire way to get yourself hurt, not to mention that it'll limit you in your other lift. Your core conects everything, and has a roll in almost every lift.

Body balance is the key, you don't want bulging abs and a meager lower back/obliques, just like you don't want huge bis and no tris, pecs like a side of beef and lats like chicken wings. Not only will you look retarded, you'll eventually hurt yourself while training.

32-34. I haven't been 28 in a long time  , In that same time I went from ~16% to 14% bf by a 7 pt caliper test given by the same person each time :dunno:

edit: not just working my abs, but the entire core like posted above me.
