This contractor is here installing a new system. One of his workers was in the main power panel for the building, installing a transformer. He touched something... no one really knows what he did, but the panel arcs and burns a hole in the panel cover and sides three inches wide by 14 inches long. He is thrown backwards into another worker; both pass out. The SrA watching them freaks out and calls for help; there is no nearby phone.

The guy survived since he was thrown from the panel. He has horrible electrical burns on one hand and will most likely suffer from welder's flash tomorrow. That is a lucky guy.

All emergency services showed up, base commander, CE commander, Safety, you name it, they were there.

The electricians were saying it was the worst arc they had ever seen. BTW these electricians were MSgts and civilian electrical engineers.

I will post pictures of the panel tomorrow if I can get my hands on them.

Edit: Can't post pictures due to pending investigation :wtc:

It is pain felt in the eyes after being exposed to a bright light. It is called welder's flash because if you weld somthing without the dark mask, you can experience the symptoms.

well in that case i am going to have to strongly suggest you hire an electrician and watch and/or video tape his work, most electricians have some form of "YOWZA!!!" that they use all the time...:noes:

It's a bad one to have when you're working on a 4 1/2 million dollar home for Catholics.

I always get electrocuted at work, it sucks bad. Guy is lucky, a current thru your fingers may induce your muscles so that you grab that object even tighter. :hsd:

Happens from not following safety protocol.

My Dad was in the AF (I was not military) and he had pics and a story of a fellow he was supposed to be training that had this happen. Dude had just transferred in from receiver for the next phase of his RTO which was transmitter. RTOs know that receive is orders of magnitude lower power than transmit...the last thing my Dad did was debrief the guy before he went to grab some chow, about proper safety rules.

When he comes back from the mess he sees the guy being hauled off on a stretcher, dead. Turns out he grounded himself against a set of bus bars for the main power. My Dad has the picture where the guy struck an arc. Sad :sadwavey:
