Now that Michigan has legalized marijuana for medical use... how does that change things regarding carrying a handgun?

I have a CPL. If I get a prescription for medical marijuana and carry a legal amount, what happens?

Of course, just like with alcohol, this question relates simply to possession.... being under the influence is a completely different story.

Sure, that applies to anything medical marijuana....

I'm asking how it effects my CPL, which is not federally issued...

What I'm trying to ask is... When I applied for my CPL, I had to tell them that I do not use marijuana.... it was basically the same theory as drinking and driving... if you get caught doing it, you forfeit your CPL. Now that it's legal (with a script), would/could the state still force you to forfeit your CPL?

yeah not just carrying together. IIRC, having a firearm and a controlled substance in the same vicinity is trouble as in a federal offense and you wont be owning any guns ever again

i was under the impression that the dea is no longer actively investigating and arresting individuals who carry the allowed amount of marijuana in a state that allows it.

not saying its a good idea though, just saying that he will most likely not be charged with a federal crime.

question came up when we were applying for our FFL. They do an extensive background check and one of the employees (not yours truely) has a medical marijuana card. The way it works and is worded in CA at least is "Are you a illegal user of drugs or marijuana" or something similar to that. The key word is illegal thus because the card made it legal it was a non issue.

I probably wouldn't carry while I was stoned anyway. Being impaired + fire arms is a pretty dangerous combination.

Was on Tuesday. He was racing and t-boned a car - they haven't mentioned how fast he was going but from the looks of the car/bike, it was triple digits easy. I knew him IRL, used to talk to him all the time around town, hadn't seen him in a while though. :(

seems like a question that violates dr patient confidentiality and thus i don't see you needing to answer

I asked this question to the ATF. They were not sure. They researched it and issued said employee a FFL.

If asked, just say you are protecting your legal pot with your legal firearm.

When you purchase medical marijuana you are breaking the law (felony). This would also make it a felony for you to posses a gun. I'm not sure how this could be unclear. Just because Michigan does not prohibit medical marijuana doesn't mean that it's legal in the US.

its only a felony when you are caught.

i believe that federal agencies have stopped or slowed down on the prosecution of medical marijuana users and dispensers.

one last thing, im not sure on the law 100% but im pretty sure that marijuana, under a certain amount, is a misdeamenor, not a felony.
