Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation?

I picked up some Federal Premium 135gr JHP Hydra Shok's and tonight I decided to try them out. I loaded the mag, racked the slide and the bullet jammed, it was stuck on the feed ramp of the barrel, it took some work to get it out.. quite a bit actually, because the bullet was still half in the mag. Can this be fixed by a gunsmith?

try polishing the ramp up, or get a glock.

A lot of people have been having issues with Federal Hydras lately.
    They're has-beens, pick something else.

In pre-21st century guns, perhaps. No modern "combat" handgun should have any trouble feeding, chambering, and firing quality JHP ammunition loaded to SAAMI specification. If your gun has such a problem, the manufacturer needs to be made aware of it and made to fix it.

It absolutely should work with JHP ammunition.
The only caveat is that there are some bullets designed specifically for bowling pin shooting which are not to SAAMI specification, and if that is what the OP was trying to shoot, it's the ammo causing the problem, not the gun.

It may have been user error.. I was 'riding the slide' when I racked it before, I just tried again and let the slide do its own thing after I racked it and they seem to be working out fine. I'm going back to the range on sunday, so we'll see. Other than that, I'm in love with this gun!

I just say stay away from the Hydrashoks altogether.
They're not the leading technology for hollow points anymore, and they're one of the worst feeding JHPs... I say just dump 'em. Use up what you have, and find something else.

Winchester Ranger-T's if you can get a hold of them, Gold Dots, and Cor-Bons are all really good top of the line JHPs that people are using, and seem to have great performance from.

Ranger - T (Bonded if you can) DPX or Gold-Dots.

The big thing is bonded ammo you want your jacket and core to stay together for weight retention.

A little polishing can fix things up nice, I was ready write my helwan off as crappy egyptian engineering and potmetal, polished up the ramp and trigger, new springs and its gone from unreliable crap to a decent shooter.

He needs to find out if its just the hyrdas, or if its other JHPs as well.
If its just the hydras... there's the problem. If its other brands as well... then polishing is in order.
